It’s a new day in QLD, the rain has eased considerably and blue skies are showing
This update is provided for Travellers Auto Barn clients, Agents and concerned friends and family.
“Here comes the rain again……”
The Bruce Highway, the main North – South route between Brisbane and Cairns remains closed in a number of places.
Well after the optimism of the Jan 4 Update today’s update is a bit disappointing.
During the course of the day one of our drivers, Andrea Kohler of Germany reported that the Bruce Highway Northbound just North of Gladstone has been closed. Despite reports from the last few days that the Bruce Highway was open to Northbound traffic and was expected to stay open, this news was completely unexpected.
As the flooding in QLD continues to make headlines, Travellers Auto Barn is fielding dozens of calls from concerned Travellers and their Travel Agents. This post is provided for the guidance and assistance of Travellers Auto Barn customers and agents.
The good news is that many of our drivers that were trapped in Agnes Waters and Hervey Bay by flood water have made it out and are now continuing on their holiday.
The BIG NEWS is that the Bruce Highway (the main North – South route) is expected to remain OPEN to NORTH bound traffic
The not so good news is that the Bruce Highway heading south is likely to remain closed for 10 days.
There is even more good news in that the forecast flood peak may fall short of predictions

We’ve done it again!!! Travellers Auto Barn have taken home the “Best National Camper/Car rental company” award at this years Golden Backpacks. That’s 3 out of the last 4 years we’ve gone home with the silverware!! Or clear plastic pointy thing-ware as is the case!
The awards dinner, hosted by TNT magazine and conducted by comedian Jeff Green, was held on Thursday night at Star City casino in Sydney and is Australia’s premier awards night for the youth travel and backpacker industry. This was the forth time Travellers Auto Barn have been nominated as finalists in a group which this year included some of the cream of Australia’s backpacker industry and to tell you the truth things were a little nervy at the TAB table.
