We all know that Australia itself is a massive country… but it is also home to massive “things”. From animals and fruits to absolute randomness, Australia has over 150 “Big Things”.
Surprisingly, these tourist traps do have a story behind them and do attract visitors. Some backpackers even make it their own personal mission to visit them all whilst traveling around Oz!

Their story
We arrived in Perth and made our way to the Travellers Auto Barn depot to pick up our new home on wheels for the next three weeks! A converted Mitsubishi Express with really cool Sandman graphics which caught everyone’s attention – including several curious Emu – (a later Google search revealed that the Holden Sandman was a very cool retro panel-van launched in the 1970‘s, popular with surfers), called a Chubby Camper it seemed well turned out and equipped!
Why is the Great Ocean Road so popular? Well first, it is FREE! It offers free gorgeous scenery and free interesting attractions! It also is part of any decent to-do list for travellers in Australia. Amongst the attractions: The 12 Apostles, Cape Otway, Bells Beach and the many small towns by the side of the road.
