Cyclone Debbie is expected to make landfall on Tuesday (28th March) morning in Queensland between Cardwell and St Lawrence including Townsville and Mackay.
There will be heavy rain, strong winds and flooding, so please follow our Facebook page for updates as well as local weather channels and radio stations.
Collecting and returning your vehicle
Cairns and Brisbane branches will be open as normal, so you will be able to collect or return your vehicle on your planned date and time.
Due to the heavy rains associated with Cyclone Debbie and the tropical system you may find the roads between Cairns and Brisbane maybe flooded for a day or two. For your own safety, please do not drive through floodwater even if other vehicles are. If you do find yourself cut off by flood waters please find an alternative route or contact us for further advice.
Prior to commencing your trip we recommend you check the RACQ’s Road Conditions Report https://www.racq.com.au/cars-and-driving/safety-on-the-road/roadconditions. This will provide you with up to date information on road conditions on your intended route.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO DRIVE ALONG THE QUEENSLAND COAST PLEASE CONSIDER THE ADVICE BELOW FOR YOUR OWN COMFORT & SAFETY:
As you are camping in a car, you may want to think about alternate accommodation in motels or backpackers, just as you would if you were doing a normal camping trip in such conditions.
- WATER LEAKS
The vehicles are not cyclone proof and may leak in torrential tropical rainfall especially when accompanied by strong winds.
NEVER EVER CROSS a flooded roadway.
- HIGH TIDES
Do not park your vehicle in low lying areas as they are at risk of flooding at High Tide.
- STRONG WINDS
Be mindful of where you are parking your vehicle, watch for trees and overhanging branches.
- TRIP PLANNING
Consider changing your route, E.G. If picking up in Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne, you might want to consider travelling outside of the affected area until the Cyclone has passed. Find a sunny location and stay a bit longer
If you are already in affected area you may want to head inland or further North or South for the next few days.
