The story below was written by Geoff Dittrich, one of 4 Canadians to cycle from Sydney to Perth as part of Macro for Micro. Their ambitious experience is unique and Travellers Auto Barn is proud to have been part of it. The pictures prove how amazing their journey was.

On March 8th, 2010, a team of four Canadians came to Sydney to take on the ambitious challenge of cycling across Australia (attempting to cover over 5,600km). These ‘crazy Canadians’ pursued this quest on in order to raise funds and awareness for Australian based microfinance charity: Opportunity International. Their route took them through some of Australia’s most prized beaches, cities, views and experiences as they followed the southern coast all the way to Perth. They spent hours on their bikes each morning cycling a new leg of their tour, while they spent their afternoons at local universities, high schools and special events to share their message of the impact we can make on those in poverty.

Traveller’s Autobarn was a crucial supporting partner in the team’s ability to surpass their goals on May 24th, 2010. The hi-top campervan that was provided to them was their home for the 78 days on the road. The team relied on the vehicle as a refuge from some fierce storms across the coasts in West Australia; it was their kitchen that replenished them with the energy for each day’s cycle; it was their venue for entertainment while stuck miles from ordinary in the Nullarbor desert; and it gave them beds to crash in each night after their chaotic schedule was met.

Cycling across the continent is no easy feat – but with the support their camper was able to give them, it took their dream and turned it into a reality. 

The ‘Macro for Micro’ cycling team (www.MacroForMicro.com) attributes so much of their success to the relentless support of Traveller’s Autobarn. The team’s challenges turned into epic adventures because of the generosity of their partner.
