| At Travellers Auto Barn, we are all about
helping backpackers explore the most beautiful
country on Earth. We want to keep it that way.
We are committed to leaving the smallest carbon
footprint possible. We want to make sure that
many more generations have the opportunity to
explore the natural wonders of Australia and every
other country on Earth.

Internally, we are:
• Addressing the management of energy within our
organisation to ensure that energy from non-renewable
sources is used as efficiently as possible
• Minimising waste and pollution in all our branches
and ensuring we effectively recycle
• Ensuring adherence to all National, State and
Local Environmental Agency Regulations.
To allow our customers to help minimise their affect
on the environment, we have pioneered the Carbon Neutral
option for all of our rentals. On average, burning a
litre of unleaded petrol produces 2.3kgs of carbon dioxide
(source: RACV). Our friends at Conservation Volunteers
Australia have calculated that it costs about 60 cents
per day to plant enough trees to offset the carbon emissions
of an average car. When you take the Carbon Neutral
option, you can rest assured knowing that you are leaving
little or no carbon footprint from your drive around
the country! Take a look at one of the programs to which
our Carbon Neutral surcharge contributes, ‘The
Island’ in …..Victoria:
We also provide our customers with this list to help
drive fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact:
Tips To Increase Fuel Efficiency - Save $$$ and the
Environment
• Ensure your car is tuned and serviced regularly.
The worst polluters on our roads tend to be old cars.
If you do drive an older car, help the environment by
making sure it is tuned according to the manufacturer's
recommendations.
• Reduce your speed. Driving more slowly reduces
fuel consumption. In fact, travelling at 110kph uses
up to 25% more fuel than cruising at 90kph. For city
driving, 60kph is the most fuel efficient speed.
• Drive smoothly. Avoid hard accelerating and
heavy braking as it uses up a lot more fuel.
• Travel lightly and remove unnecessary items
from your car to reduce weight - those golf clubs in
the back and the surfboard on the roof create extra
load and reduce aerodynamics. This will improve your
fuel consumption and reduce emissions.
• Make sure your tyres are inflated to the correct
pressure, as soft tyres cause higher fuel consumption.
