A campervan adventure is an amazing way to see Australia. You have the freedom to make your own schedule and discover hidden gems along the way. Finding the right campervan hire option in Brisbane starts with asking a few questions. To ensure you find the right vehicle for your journey, consider these questions:

  • How many travellers will be aboard?
  • Do you plan to sleep in the vehicle or camp?
  • What kind of cooking gear do you need?
  • What’s your budget?

These four questions will help you narrow down the right campervan for your trip. Budgie or Cubby campers are a great deal while also offering lots of amenities. While the Kuga and HI5 include even more comforts.

There’s more to consider when looking at hire services. Find a hire service that offers unlimited kilometres, so you don’t end up blowing your budget. Be on the lookout for other benefits like no cash bond or credit card deductions and 24/7 roadside assistance. Caravan park discounts or free camper park admittance are also options.

Once you find your vehicle, it’s time to plan your trip.

Designing your perfect Brisbane road trip

First, it’s important to point out that starting in Brisbane is much more economical than other cities. Also, no matter what time of year, Brisbane has a less variable climate than some other areas, with winters still bearable at around 20 °C and sunny summer days hitting 30 °C. Its proximity to the Coral Sea brings in warm ocean currents. Starting in Brisbane, there are so many areas within a few hours of the city that are unique and enchanting. Here are our favourites:

Killarney

Only two hours south of Brisbane, Killarney is lovely little country village that happens to be the home of many ranges and waterfalls. It’s worth the trek to see Queen Mary Falls and Dags Falls. You’ll find a caravan park if you’d like to stay the night or a few days, and can stop by a local pub for some authentic Australian fare.

Tin Can Bay

Travel a little over 200 kilometres north from Brisbane to Tin Can Bay. Tin Can Bay has been characterised as quaint coastal village. The harbour is breathtaking, and depending on the time of year, you can enjoy fishing and water sports. One of the most popular activities is the wild dolphin feeding, which happens most every day. Buy a bucket of fish for $5, and these gentle, intelligent creatures will come to meet you as you stand in the water. Away from the beach, there are bush walks. Stay the night at the Tin Can Bay Tourist Park, which boasts grassy sites and clean amenities.

Bundaberg

From Tin Can Bay, you can continue north along the coast toward Bundaberg. The drive is magical, with hints of the beach and wilderness. During winter, you may also catch sight of humpback whales. Bundaberg, a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, is home to a rare colony of loggerhead turtle. From November to March, the Mon Repos Regional Park has nightly tours to see these beautiful creatures.  Another great spot to hit is the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, which features over 10,000 different plants.

Toowoomba

Outside the coast, you can head west to Toowoomba in less than two hours. Explore the Ravensbourne National Park and its majestic red cedars. Crows Nest National Park is another great spot where you’ll find a eucalypt forest and Crows Nest Falls. For a different kind of natural experience, visit the University of Queensland’s Ju Raku En Gardens, featuring Japanese gardens and designs.
