Get inspired and trade your boring office job for the dusty roads of the outback, the laid-back cities or the beautiful beaches of Australia. Welcome to our series ‘On the road with’, where we chat to customers about their experience with a Travellers Autobarn campervan. This time we caught up with Helen, a young backpacker from Norway that just returned from her road trip down the East Coast of Australia in a Kuga Campervan.
Name: Helen (24), Sofie (24) and Live (22)
Country of residence: Oslo, Norway
Total days on the road: 21 days
Type of camper: Kuga Campervan
G’day! Tell us a bit about yourselves
We are three girls from Oslo. We are backpacking around Australia to experience everything crazy we can’t do back home in Norway. In Norway we call it “ut av deg sjæl opplevelse” (out of yourself experience).
The campervan gave us the freedom to travel wherever and whenever we want to. It gave us opportunity to see things that are not your typical tourist attractions. The ‘camping life’ is also an experience by itself.
We drove a big part of the East coast, from Cairns to Brisbane. We skydived in Cairns, seen kangaroos at the beach in Cape Hillsborough, went snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, flew over Fraser Island and we experienced beautiful Withsunday Island!
Sofie: Definitely skydiving!
Helen: Waking up during sunrise with kangaroos
Live: Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef
Living in a van with three people can be both hot and crowded. Especially with big backpacks. Fortunately there was more in the top bunk than we expected, so we learnt to manage. The kitchen had everything we needed, but we mostly chose to use the kitchen at camping grounds anyway.
We didn’t have problems with the camper, so we were very happy with Travellers Autobarn. We started to miss the van when we went to Fraser island for a night. We named it Bodil bobil (Bodil is a Norwegian name and Bobil means campervan). The best part with Bodil is that she brought us to places we could never have experienced with public transport.

Waking up to noise from the kangaroos at Cape Hillsborough early in the morning. We went outside to see them play at the beach, it was amazing!
