Byron Bay is most of the most mystical travel destinations in Australia – filled with tonnes of amazing beaches, extensive hinterland and a super relaxing lifestyle.
It’s only 950 kilometers away from Sydney – ok, we say ONLY, but considering the size of Australia, it’s not a great lot. Nevertheless – if you’re in a rush, you can push for 10 hours – but why the hassle? Should you be considering a Sydney campervan trip anytime soon, don’t miss out on these amazing spots!
Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
Stop 1This national park should be your first stop out of Sydney – it’s about a 45 to 60 min drive from the city centre & the second oldest national park of Australia. No matter if you are into hiking, water sports, fishing, biking or just kick back for a couple of beers & a barbie it is an awesome experience.
Central Coast - Hunter Valley
Stop 2What can we say – nature nature nature! The Central Coast offers you lots of great spots to spend a couple of night – we recommend to check out Petonga, Umina, Terrigal, Shelly Beach or the Entrance. One of the best camp ground spots is at the Umina Ocean Beach Holiday Park – check out these views! Your campervan spot will be right on the beach – amazing!
Once you had enough from the best to forget to stop for a couple of days at the Hunter Valley – the wine paradise of NSW (2.5 hrs from Sydney/1.5 hrs from Central Coast). Check out the Hunter Valley Wine Tourist site.
Port Stephens
Stop 3Around 3 hours from Sydney Port Stephens is famous for its whale watching & dolphin tours and also a must stop 4WD & sand boarding fans (massive sand tunes!). Port Stephens consists of a several little bays and really is a little paradise – definitely check out Shoal bay and Fingal Bay, our #1 recommendation! Fingal Beach consists of a beach that connects to an island only during low tight – who is brave enough!

Stop 4Port Macquarie (only two hours from Port Stephens and around 5 hours from Sydney) is known for its golden beaches, great wildlife & magnificent rainforest. There is also a famous car park right at the beach – reserve a spot for dawn! And hey – if you bored check out the “52 Things to Do” Port Macquarie website.
Coffs Harbour
Stop 5Port Macquarie (around 7 hours from Sydney) is probably most famous for its BIG BANANA. We don’t know of any tourist who hasn’t take a quick snap of the famous landmark! But Coffs Harbour has some much more to offer – you might even call it a little adventure sports city – white water rafting, sky dives, surfing – it will get your heart pumping!
