3 Tips for driving your campervan around Brisbane

Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, is one of Australia’s largest cities. Situated on the banks of the Brisbane River, this vibrant city is home to a diverse range of attractions and activities.

If you’re planning on hiring a campervan and exploring Brisbane and its surrounds, here are a few tips to help you get around:

Avoid peak hour traffic

Brisbane’s notorious peak hour traffic can quickly turn a pleasant drive into a frustrating crawl. To avoid the worst of the traffic, plan your trips around Brisbane outside of peak hours. This way, you can enjoy a stress-free journey in your campervan.

During rush hour, average speeds on roads in south-east Queensland are up to 43 kilometres per hour slower than the posted limit. Drivers continue to encounter gridlock at the conventional peak hours of 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm, but the congestion lasts longer and happens at odd times.

Electronic tag account to pay for tolls

Queensland’s toll roads are like a big, happy family. They’re all connected and they make getting around the greater Brisbane and Toowoomba areas a breeze. Plus, with an electronic tag account, you can easily pay for all your Queensland tolls in one go!

Whether you’re travelling on the AirportlinkM7, Clem7, Gateway Motorway, Go Between Bridge, Legacy Way, Logan Motorway, or Toowoomba Bypass, you don’t have to worry about having the right change. We at Travellers Autobarn will explain to you on pick-up on how we handle toll roads & charges to avoid any financial surprises for our customers.

Use a Sat Nav/GPS system

No matter how familiar you are with the area, a satellite navigation system is a key to successful travel. This app provides turn-by-turn directions, traffic updates in real-time, and even alternative routes if needed so that you can rest assured knowing that you will never get lost.

Most smartphones come with a mapping application if you don’t have a portable GPS, which can do the same thing. For example, Google Maps is compatible with both iOS and Android and it’s free. After downloading the app, all you need to do is input your coordinates and start your journey.

Make the most of your Brisbane campervan rental

Find a good location to stay

Brisbane is the ideal starting point from which to explore Queensland. We recommend spending your first day in Brisbane exploring and staying the night. We understand that you are eager to hit the road, but it is crucial to be well-rested when driving for extended periods of time. The abundance of camping and caravan parks in the sunshine state makes it easy to spend each night of your tour waking up to a new scene of nature’s doorstep.

Campervan rentals with Travellers Autobarn include a 10% discount on stays at any of 300 Discovery or G’Day campgrounds. When you rent a campervan from us in Brisbane, we will also provide you with information and suggestions for free campgrounds that you can use during your vacation.
