Greens Lake Recreation Reserve Campground

Greens Lake Recreation Reserve Campground

Corop, Victoria

One spot that is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for free camping in Echuca is Greens Lake Recreation Reserve Campground. This is perfect if you want to relax by the water and enjoy some outdoor activities, and while the amenities are pretty basic, it does have the essentials covered. This includes toilets, fire pits, drinking water, and rubbish bins. It’s also dog friendly, but you’ll need to keep your furry friend on a leash at all times.

The real draw here is the lake itself, and if you’re into water sports, you’re in for a very good time! You’re welcome to bring a kayak, paddleboard, or canoe with you to explore the water, or if you prefer, you can just float around on inflatables. It’s also a great spot for cooling off in the summer months, and for keen anglers, there’s the chance to cast a line and see what you can catch for dinner.

Once you’ve had your fill of water-based fun, head to Tatura (a small town about 15 minutes away), where you’ll get the opportunity to learn more about the history area at the Tatura World War II and POW Camps Collection. There is also a good selection of shops here, which is ideal if you’re running low on supplies or want to grab some souvenirs.

Cohuna Flora Park

Cohuna Flora Park

Cohuna, Victoria

Set right within the park itself, the campgrounds at Cohuna Flora Park are a wonderful choice for anyone who appreciates both nature and a slower pace of life. Here, you’ll wake up to the sound of birds, occasionally spot a kangaroo hopping by, and, as the name suggests, be surrounded by a beautiful mix of trees and plant life.

There aren’t loads of facilities here compared to more developed sites, but you do have access to picnic tables, toilets, drinking water, and a children’s playground. Campervans are welcome to stay here, but camper trailers are not allowed, so you’ll need to find somewhere else if you have one in tow. You’re also limited to a stay of 72 hours, so make sure you hit the road again once you’re time is up.

You’re right by the Gunbower Creek at this free camping area, which is lovely for paddling or fishing in, and many campers here enjoy an afternoon of trying their luck with catching Murray cod and yellowbelly. The town of Cohuna is also a short walk away from the campgrounds, and it’s got everything you need, from cafes to supermarkets.
