Q: What do I do when my campervan breaks down? How do I contact Travellers Autobarn when I've encountered a problem?

If the mechanic can not rectify the problem by the roadside & the car needs to be towed by a mechanical garage, please call Travellers Autobarn on 1800 674 374 for a recommended garage.

We will handle all discussions and payments to the repairer. We will do everything we can to get your car back and fully operational as soon as is pactible given the time and location where the breakdown occurs.

If the vehicle is off the road a few days you will be refunded that days rental or alternatively you may extend your rental by the same number of days.

If you have broken down, don't get too stressed out. Call us on 1800 674 374 and let Travellers Autobarn get busy doing our best to get you on the road as soon as possible.

Q: How much is it to rent a campervan?

A: Our prices start at $35 a day (conditions apply). Check out our prices here.

Q: How many people can travel in each vehicle?

A: Seat belts are mandatory in Australia. Therefore, the number of passengers allowed would depend on the number of seat belts in the vehicle.

Q: How do I get to the Travellers Autobarn Depot?

A: Pick up and return of vehicles is at our depots (not airports). Our depots are close to the airports. On return of the vehicle it is your responsibility to make your way to your next destination.

Q: Can a child seat be fitted?

A: Child seats can only be fitted in certain models. We can provide a child seat that complies with local laws. You must inform us at the time of the booking if a child seat will be used in the vehicle, whether or not you provide your own, so that the appropriate installations can be made.

Q: How does the Bond/Excess on a rental vehicles work?

A: It is very important to ensure that you have enough money on your credit card to cover for a bond, as they can range from $0 to $3000 depending on your chosen security bond option.. Check with your bank that your daily limit is set appropriately to prevent potential delay to getting on the road.

Q: How can I pay for my rental?

A: All payments must be made in Australian dollars and we accept any of the following:

  • Cash
  • Debit Cards
  • Credit cards.

Q: How much will my road trip cost? How can I estimate this?

A: To get a fair estimate of your road trip cost, you should consider the basic factors like:

  • Accommodation
  • Food and drinks
  • Travel and Tour passes
  • Transport fees

Q: How do I plan a road trip in Australia?

A: If you’re planning on a road trip in Australia, here are some things you should consider:

  • Who you’re travelling with and how many people
  • The weather for the locations that you’ll be visiting (so you’ll know what type of clothes to bring)
  • How you’re planning to travel from place to place
  • What places you’ll be visiting (be sure to check out their website for essential details like tours, nearby places of interest…etc.)
  • How much money you’ll need (plus a little extra for emergencies)
  • The prices of food and accommodation here in Australia
  • Any essentials – sunscreen, medication…etc.
  • Any services you may need when travelling (like phone and internet)

Q: How do I find out the time it'd take for me to get from A to B?

A: For directions and travel time, we recommend using an app like Google maps. It will be able to give you a good estimate of how long it will take to get to your destination – and of course, what roads to take.

There are free maps available at most tourist stops and you can always ask any of the locals for help.

Q: Can I use my international license to drive in Australia?

A: This will be dependent on the state or territory that you’re visiting.

In some states, you will be required carry an International License along with your current foreign license. Other states will also ask you to carry a formally translated English version of your foreign driver’s license.

Q: How and where can I apply for an international driving license?

A: International driving licenses /permits are usually issued through your country’s motoring clubs/authority. You’d need to contact them for more information about obtaining one.

It should be noted that not all states in Australia require an international driving permit. In most states you’d only need to carry around a valid overseas license.

Q: Can I use my car license to drive a campervan? Do I need a special license for this?

A: Yes, you may use a valid international driver’s license or any full, valid license from your country of residence. No special license is needed to drive a campervan.

Q: How much does fuel cost in Australia and how do I work out how much fuel I need for the trip?

A: Currently, fuel costs about $1.30 - $1.50/L in most cities areas, and diesel are each within $.05 (roughly about half of the cost of petrol in Europe). Depending on the tank size and fuel consumption of your campervan, you can generally expect a full tank to around 7 hours on the road.
