Blythwood South Rest Area
Blythewood, Perth
Accessible to campervans, camper trailers, and big rigs, Blythwood South Rest Area is a great place to camp for free if you’re looking for a comfortable overnight spot, and while it’s just off the main road, it’s surprisingly quiet and you won’t hear much traffic noise.
The amenities here are basic, and are limited to public toilets, picnic tables, and rubbish bins. However, you are in close proximity to some great walking trails, and since this site is dog friendly, you can explore the surrounding area with your canine companion! Likewise, there are some open green spaces closeby that are ideal for chilling in the sun or enjoying an impromptu game of cricket.

Clackline Reserve
Clackline, Perth
As you make your way along the Great Eastern Highway, one beautiful campsite you can call home for a couple of nights is Clackline Reserve. Suitable for camper trailers, campervans, 4WDs and 2WDs, you’ll find some excellent facilities here, including toilets and concrete fire pits. It’s also dog friendly, so ideal if you’re travelling with your furry friend.
Aside from the excellent facilities, one of the best things about camping at Clackline Reserve is its natural surroundings. Here, you’ll find yourself nestled inside a native forest with access to walking trails that are just begging to be explored. There are loads of spaces here, too, so it’s an ideal spot if you’re concerned about availability.

Katrine – Viveash Reserve
Katrine, Perth
Ideal if you want to combine free camping with the opportunity for fishing, swimming, or kayaking, Katrine – Viveash Reserve is set on the banks of the Avon River and is around an hour’s drive from Perth. Camper trailers and campervans can easily access this site from both Northam Toodyay and Katrine Roads, and while there are limited facilities it’s a great spot to kick back relax.
Along with its riverside location, the surrounding native trees and bushland offer an excellent opportunity to go birdwatching or explore the native flora and fauna. You’re also allowed to create a fire here, as long as you bring your own firewood.

Moore River Bridge Rest Stop
Indian Ocean Drive, Perth
While it may seem like Moore River Bridge Rest Stop is simply a place to pull in for a quick break, the controlling authority (Main Roads Western Australia) have actually permitted the use of the site for overnight stays, so it’s a good choice if you’re looking for somewhere basic to catch some z’s before heading onto the next leg of your journey the following morning.
In terms of facilities, things are pretty basic but there are toilets, rubbish bins and picnic tables for you to use. The only thing you need to keep in mind, however, is that there is only space for six campervans or camper trailers, so it’s worth getting here early to grab a space.

Avon Park
York, Perth
While Avon Park is a little further outside of Perth (around an 80 minute drive), this is the place to visit if you’re looking for a free campsite with awesome facilities. Here, you’ll find toilets, a dump point, sheltered picnic areas, electric BBQ facilities, drinking water, a skate park, and a nature playground – ideal for families travelling with young children.
The surrounding area also offers some breathtaking views across the Avon River, and there are some awesome walking trails you can explore, including the Avon River Walk Trail which takes you over a swinging bridge for an extra level of excitement.

Another great thing about Gwambygine Avon Ascent is the facilities, which include toilets, free gas BBQs, and drinking water. It also has a kids play park, access to walking trails, and swimming opportunities, so not only is it super convenient but it’s also an excellent choice for families looking to break free from their vehicle for a day as they make their way along the Great Southern Highway.

Pinjarra RV Rest Area
Pinjarra, Perth
About an hour’s drive South of Perth, you’ll find Pinjarra RV Rest Area, which is a great spot if you’re looking for somewhere to rest for free for up to 24 hours. There’s plenty of room for camper trailers, big rigs, and campervans here, too, with fifteen designated spaces – the only thing you need to keep in mind is that you aren’t allowed to return here within five consecutive days of your stay.
Unlike most rest areas, you’ll find some pretty good amenities here, including toilets, a dump point, and picnic tables. It’s also dog friendly, and you’ll be in close proximity to to Pinjarra Town Centre, which offers you the opportunity to eat at some great restaurants, including Pinjarra Fish & Chip Shop.
